St. Patrick

The scroll quotes his words on the Trinity from his famous Lorica, and is adorned with a shamrock, a symbol of the Trinity and the national emblem of Ireland. Born in the fourth century, he was carried off by raiders to be a slave in Ireland, where he labored as a shepherd. After six years he escaped to Gaul, where received heavenly visions in which God manifested the Saint's destiny as a missionary to Ireland.Elevated to the episcopate, he returned to the Emerald Isle, where with the divine help of miraculous signs he converted the Irish kings and their people, established churches and monasteries and performed great works of charity. Saint Patrick also sent forth many priests and bishops for the conversion of England.
