Archangel Gabriel icon

In the classic Byzantine iconographic tradition, the divine herald Saint Gabriel is depicted in ceremonial robes modeled after Byzantine courtiers, carrying a staff and an orb marked with an X for the first letter for the Greek word for Christ. His name means "God is my strength" in Hebrew. He served as God?s messenger to the prophet Daniel and Zacharias the father of Saint John the Baptist, and announced the Incarnation of Christ to the Blessed Virgin in Nazareth. Patron saint of messengers, communications, and postal workers.
