SOLD Created by the hand of American iconographer Brother Simeon Davis, this original icon of Saint John the Evangelist exemplifies the radiant colors, fine detail, and fidelity to classical iconography that has made the Monastery Icons collection the most beloved Christian art over the past thirty-three years. This icon is one of a kind and will no longer be available once it is sold.

Painted in the classic style of Byzantine portraits of the Evangelist. The gold-striped band over the saint's shoulder shows his status as a son of the heavenly king, echoing the ancient tradition in which a king or emperor's son wore just such an emblem.

This icon is painted on 1/4-inch non-tempered artist's hardboard measuring 11" wide by 14" tall. The artist used classic egg tempera. The background is hand applied 23 kt gold leaf applied using the varnish gilt method. The icon has a protective artist's grade arcylic varnish. Created in the year 1985, the painting includes the artist's "signature" in tiny letters: "By the hand of Simeon 1985," as is traditional in iconography.

If you are not entirely satisfied with any item, return it to us within 30 days for an exchange or refund. (Exceptions: Only pre-authorized returns for custom items, including banners, CP and CH size icons, cathedral-size icons, and large or customized orders for other items.)

To ensure proper credit for your account, enclose a copy of the invoice in the box with the returned item, and indicate your reason for the return. All items must be returned in sellable condition.
