Description

Numbered among the Fathers of the Church, Saint John's famous eloquence earned him the title "Chrysostom," which means "golden mouthed." Brother Simeon's portrait of this early hierarch is based on ancient icons found in the apses of Eastern churches. Saint John was outspoken in his denunciation of abuse of authority in the Church and in the Roman Empire of the time, and composed the Liturgy which is the most celebrated form of worship in the Orthodox Churches today.

This icon is painted on 1/4-inch non-tempered artist's hardboard measuring 11" x 14", with a gold leaf background. The artist used matte fluid acrylics which replicate classic egg tempera. The background is painted. Shipping and handling $36.00. Created in the year 1987 by Brother Simeon Davis, the painting includes the artist's "signature" in tiny letters: "By the hand of Simeon 1987" as is traditional in iconography.
